Local 9 has committed to training for the 21st Century, and is proud of the fact that we can deliver the most Highly Trained and Highly Skilled workers available.  In such a diversified industry, certifications not only add to our members' employability, but also ensures our signatory contractors that the people they employ are capable of accomplishing any facet of our trade.  Some of the many special skills, certifications and licenses available are:

  • Boiler Operator
  • Drafting (CAD)
  • Estimating
  • Foreman Training
  • Instrumentation
  • Master Plumbing License
  • Medical Gas Certification
  • Certified Back Flow Tester
  • Valve Repair
  • CFC Certification
  • High Lift Operation
  • Natural Gas Piping
  • Welding Certifications, inclusive of SMAW, TIG, MIG, & Orbital disciplines

Journeyman training is always available on an as-needed basis. LU9 members must sign up by calling the LU9 training center @ (732) 446-1550 day or night. They need to give:

  • The name of the course
  • Their name
  • Social Security Number
  • Phone Number

Registering members will be put on the list for that course.  When the list reaches 12 or more members, the certified instructors will be asked to provide dates when they will be available to teach the course. A letter will be sent to each member on the list, asking for a money order made to cash for $150.00. This deposit will guarantee a spot on the roster on a First-come, First-served basis. The money order must have your name, course selection, and social security number printed on it. The letter will also have the start date and the time of the course. No other notice will be given unless the course is canceled. The course will not be scheduled until enough members have submitted their money orders to guarantee attendance.

Upon completion of the course and meeting all requirements of the course, the member will have the money order returned.

If the member drops out of the course, does not start, or does not complete the course without having provided proper notification to the coordinator, the money order will NOT be returned.

The Local 9 Trust Fund must ensure full and complete attendance for all courses to constitute the large expense to the fund.

If the course is not scheduled for lack of response, the members money order will be returned and proper notice of cancellation will be given ASAP.

Many courses require continuity updates, refreshers and/or recertification at certain intervals. This is the responsibility of each member. All members are encouraged to take advantage of the training available. It is time well spent for your future.
